This table lists 50 Y Combinator batches covering 6,177 companies, built from the batch field in the YC companies dataset. Batches are sorted with the most recent first, and the largest batch in the data is Winter 2022 with 410 companies.

Companies with no batch recorded are grouped under Unknown so the counts add up to the full dataset.

How to read each column

  • Batch: the YC cohort label, such as a season and year.
  • Companies: how many companies in the dataset belong to that batch.
  • Active rate: the share of the batch whose status is Active, rounded to the nearest whole percent. Older batches have had more time for companies to be acquired, go public, or shut down.
  • Countries: the number of distinct countries listed across the batch's companies.
  • Top industries: up to three industries with the most companies in that batch, most common first.

What you can use it for

  • Cohort comparison: see how batch size and the active rate change from one cohort to the next.
  • Founder research: find the batches that matched your own stage or sector, then look up the companies in the directory.
  • Investor and recruiter outreach: use the top industries to spot which cohorts concentrated on a given area.
  • Trend spotting: scan the top industries column over time to see which sectors rose or faded between batches.
